Resolutions to Keep
Too many New Year's resolutions are unrealistic and hard to keep. In that spirit, I am going to make a list of suggestions that you will find a lot more fun to stick to.
There are so many wines in the world, and so much fun to be had trying them. Here then is a list, in no particular order, of resolutions to start your year with:
Hold a wine tasting party
If you prefer red wines (like me) try a new white this year. Make it something unusual.
If you prefer whites, try a new red. Keep it light, like a Pinot Noir or a Chinon from the Loire.
Chose a wine sometime in the next year, for no other reason than you have no idea of what it is. Beware wines from countries that you don't think of for wine, it may be less pleasant a surprise than anticipated.
Try at least one new wine from each of the follow Countries:
Chile
Argentina
New Zealand
Spain
Canada
Try several wines from Germany. Look for Riesling on the label. One of the wines should be inexpensive, but not a Liebfraumilch. One of the wines should be expensive, as expensive as your budget allows.
Order a full bottle of decent wine, when you know you are not going to drink it all, and send the unfinished portion back to the kitchen. The cooks don't get many tips.
Find a sparkling wine that is not from Champagne, California or Spain.
Visit at least one winery. If you like what you taste, buy a bottle or two to take home.
Read a wine book. I would like you to read mine, but any book is better than none.
Discover a new food and wine paring that you love.
Discover a new food and wine pairing you hate.
Enjoy a dessert wine with breakfast.
Buy a reasonably expensive wine, just because it has a screw cap.
Post your comments!
I hope the New Year finds you all healthy, wealthy, and and in good spirits.

Now THAT is a fun resolution list and one I am definitely IN on =:)
So I'm having dinner with a woman tomorrow who told me to bring a dry red wine. Is that Merlot? Pinot Nior? what?
Almost all red wines are dry (in that they have no sugar). Pinot Noir is great with food, so it is always a good choice to bring to dinner.
